RSS Update Speeds
  • Hey guys, I am working on an app for a ipod version of my fansite - www.lionel-messi.co.uk

    My app page is: http://isites.us/apps/lionelmessicouk/lionel-messi_co_uk

So i'm wondering what the update time for the RSS is. For example, at the time of posting, the feed located at http://www.lionel-messi.co.uk/category/barcelona/barcelona-ipod-friendly/feed reads differently to the relevant category on the app.

A few hours delay isn't a problem, I'm just curious as to what the process is for fetching feed updates.

As a wordpress user, is there maybe a way that updates could be forced or sped up?

    Many thanks,
    Dom.
  • Now things have gotten even more messed up, somebody please help :p
  • Hi Dom,

The maximum delay in updating the app is a few hours.

Can you explain what the delay is and what problems you are experiencing?

    Yamini
  • Hi Yamini :)

Now for example, the app category titled 'Barcelona' is displaying totally the wrong posts when compared to what it should be fetching from http://www.lionel-messi.co.uk/category/barcelona/barcelona-ipod-friendly/feed

Furthermore, the post "Messi: I Still Play Like A Child" isn't displaying the image associated with it.

Does it just need more time?

    Dom
  • I'm going to look into this and get back to you.

  • Hi Dom,

I'm not sure what the confusion around the update time is. I compared the feed with what I'm seeing in the app and it seems that all the content is in appropriate places in accordance with the feeds assigned to the categories.

Can you point out to a more specific issue? I'll have the image issue looked into. Most likely it is a small tagging issue with the post. I'll get back to you on that.

  • It's cool now. Just the image issue is all I can see.

    Thanks :)
    Dom
  • Changed the image to another and now its fine, so all fine now!

Looking to get this project moving in terms of the possibility of publishing a native app.
    Any advise appreciated.

    Dom.
  • Can this only be done on mac, or pc too?
  • Publishing?

If you are on a Premium account, you will need a Mac to generate the requisite certificates.

If you sign into Pro, we'll do it for you and it won't matter what platform you're using.

  • Right ok, thank you.
Is going to require the pro route by the looks of things.

However, seeing as we went onto the premium account just 2 days ago, its not really financially viable to now go onto pro now. Unless the premium purchase could be refunded. Other wise the pro upgrade will have to wait some weeks.

Also, on the pro route, if you do it for us will we require to set up an apple developer scheme with the one time cost of $99.

    Cheers,
    Dom.
  • Possible alternative is turning to android.
Will consider and get back to you
  • Hi Dom,

If you upgrade now, we will refund the amount for Premium. It only makes sense.

So we recommend that you set up your Apple Developer account.

    Here are the reasons why:

    1) You will have the freedom to edit your app details and upload promotional content
    2) You will be able to charge for your app
    3) You will be able to put in place in-app subscriptions in the future
    4) You won't be in a queue with a lot of other apps and hence will get your app accepted to the App Store faster

We will manage the submission process for you. You will only need to provide us with your apple developer id and password.

Under your current plan, you do have Android app.

    Hope this is helpful.

  • The Apple Developer account is now set up. Am I correct in assuming that i do not need to enroll on the developer program?
Upon response I will switch to pro account on here.
    Thanks,
    Dom
  • Hi Dom,

    Not sure what you mean.

You have to pay Apple $99 to get the developer account access to submit apps with.

    Have I answered your question?

  • Hello,
    I fully understand now.

I've upgraded to pro, I would appreciate it if you would honor the claim made on Thursday...
"If you upgrade now, we will refund the amount for Premium."

When this is done, it would be an ideal time to get the apple get the developer account access to submit apps with.

    Thanks,
    Dom
  • Hi Dom,

    I'll make the appropriate refunds.

Please let us know what youre apple id is and we can then submit your app.

  • Working on getting the developer account but they seem to have problems as outlined at http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=13176826&tstart=0 !
  • Better news... problem is seemingly fixed. Order placed for dev. enrollment and currently awaiting activation email.

To who / where should I email my apple id to?

    Thanks,
    Dom.
  • Sent you a private message with email details.

  • Email sent!
  • Got it!

I'm closing this thread now. Will be in touch about any issues with the login.
